Not much to report today. Just checking on the blogs I follow and had to sign in to comment on one, so here I am with nothing to say, but itchy fingers nonetheless.
My plan to quit worrying about how I fold the towels was tested this morning. I passed. I didn't give any thought to which side was out or any other silliness like that. I confess to refolding a hand towel, but only because it made more sense to do it then rather than when I put it on the rack. Working on my foibles!
Before folding, however, I had to chase one of those tiny frogs around the room. I spotted it on my way to the laundry room. It was pretending to be an inanimate object when I noticed it. I grabbed a tissue and reached down to pick it up. Naturally, it did not want to be captured. It took quite a long leap forward and I followed and tried again. It hopped again and I saw that this was a game I wasn't going to win...unless I changed my tactic.
I found a small plastic container and a thin piece of cardboard and approached my wary prey. It made one last jump as I bent down. I distracted it with the cardboard while I sneakily covered it with the container. Once I slid the cardboard underneath it was all over except for the disposal. I spoke nicely to it and told it to calm down. I said it didn't belong in my house and I was going to put it outside where it would enjoy itself much more. Then I popped it into the flower bed where it sat for a few seconds...either stunned by the cold air or sulking at its perceived rude treatment.
And that's the way it was...so far, anyway. Never a dull moment here!
Time for a snack.

It's Just How I Am
I have posted before about my OCD tendencies. I remember posting about my need to make sure towels and washcloths were folded so that the tags were "inside" and not visible. I'm sure I don't know who would have taken the trouble to open cabinets and inspect them. But, just to be safe...I cut all the tags off. I thought that would be the end of it.
But, no...I'm way to clever to be fooled by removing the tags. I can actually see, at the ends of the towels, that one side is the "wrong" side. So, I will start to fold a towel, see the wrong side facing out and start over. Really, it never ceases to amaze me that I can find new ways to torture myself. For instance...still on the towels...once its folded, it you can't see either of the ends!
Today, after starting over on a couple of towels, I decided to quit that stupid behavior. Wouldn't you know it, from then on the remainder of the towels straightened up and flew right. I only hope I remember my resolve the next time I fold towels.
Just another fascinating glimpse into my psyche...

Yay! I'm Overweight!
Yes! All the time (6 days) I've spent weighing in, prepping foods, cooking, eating and logging it in my Lose It app is paying off. The Wii Fit program has deemed me overweight instead of obese. Mind you, I'm on the cusp and if I'm not careful it could move up the few numbers that will tip the scale, so to speak.
To be fair to me, the Wii Fit program only has my height and weight to go on. To be fair to the Wii Fit program, it's probably pretty fair to me. When I went to a website to calculate body mass index, it still considered me obese. So, I guess the Wii Fit is being extremely kind.
This dieting business is taking a lot of time. For several days I've barely left the kitchen until evening. I just came upstairs to have a cup of afternoon coffee and check emails. I still have work to do in the kitchen, not to mention my afternoon snack is due within the hour. Once I start adding real exercise (or what passes for real exercise for me) to the mix, I don't know how I'll manage to get anything else accomplished.
On a somewhat related note: I think I mentioned how good the ham was that I cooked for New Year's Day. After I dropped by Gage's birthday party yesterday I went to the grocery store and bought another ham. I told the girls I was cooking it today and they could come by for take out (not dine-in) any time after noon. I got the ham in the oven at 9 and then made breakfast for Wayne (pancakes and bacon for him) and me (not pancakes and bacon, that's for sure!) Then I read the paper and worked on a Sunday crossword puzzle from December...still haven't caught up with the paper since my trip. I put some sweet potatoes in the oven about 11 and did about 10 minutes of extremely easy exercise on the Wii Fit and...ta-da...time to get the ham out of the oven. As soon as I took the foil off I realized two things...1) I messed up and bought a shank instead of the butt, so there's a lot of bone, and 2) I didn't take the little round plastic thingy out before I baked it. That really wasn't a problem, I guess, since it wasn't even warped, never mind melted. I couldn't believe I had forgotten to look at the label and make sure it was a butt...geez!
It was still good, just more fat to cut off and more gristly bits than the butt had. Wendy sent Kelly over to get their share of it. I haven't heard from Carolyn or Robin yet, but their shares are trimmed of fat and in ziplock bags in the fridge. There's a nice big bone to use in beans. Carolyn made some really good beans with the (much) smaller bone from last week's butt.
I'm off to the kitchen to finish cleaning it and have my freaking snack, though I'm not a bit hungry for it. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Getting Older
It's so much fun getting older. I was playing Free Cell and thought of something I wanted to do on the internet. In the five or so seconds it took my browser to open I forgot what I wanted to do. I hate it when that happens.
Speaking of getting older, Gage's 8th birthday was today. Wayne and I went over there for a small family party. Very small. It was just the Garners, Wayne and I, Carolyn, Kate, Carlee and Cullen (Tracy's son.) When Brent went to pick Jax up from daycare, Jax came running to him with a smile on his face. As soon as Brent picked him up, Jax threw up on him. Brent arrived home shirtless and Jax arrived home wearing only a diaper. So, they stayed at home. We don't think Jax is sick, though. We stopped by after the party and he was a happy camper, eating snack crackers and waiting for pizza.
The photo of Gage's cake illustrates how cleverly Wendy solved the problem of forgetting to buy candles. They are having a party for Gage's friends at the skating rink tomorrow. I guess she's making the cake for that party. She texted me at 10:30 PM to see if I had any canned icing. I was very surprised to see that I didn't have any. I suppose she'll handle it in the morning.
Also on the subject of getting older...I was in the living room while most of them were in the kitchen. I think I heard them (including Wendy) discussing Wendy's age. She had missed it by a year. I believe she said something like, "I forgot and it's too hard to figure out."

Too short for my weight!
Before I tell you what made me laugh this morning...I laughed so hard I almost peed (well, I started my 6 week body makeover diet & exercise program this morning and you have to drink a LOT of water)...I need to tell you about a science project from a really long time ago.
I think it was Wendy's science project, but I can't say for sure. The project was to light a small bulb using lemons as the energy source. I think it was lemons. It was citrus of some type. And it was when she was in junior high, probably. Anyway, it did work, although I don't remember much more than I already told you about it.
This morning, as I said, I started my weight loss program. The one that has me eating, drinking and peeing all day long. At least it seems that way. I woke up later than I wanted to...well, really it was only 15 minutes later, so never mind about that. I had my breakfast of a 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 scrambled egg, 1/2 slice pre-cooked bacon (only 10 calories in that sucker), and 1/2 grapefruit. I spent some time putting these food items in my Lose It! app on my phone. Then I went to the living room to set up the Nintendo Wii Fit program, which I have had for probably a couple of years.
I got it all set up, but couldn't proceed because the Wii informed me that the batteries in the balance board needed to be changed. (It's always something!) I changed them and went to the kitchen to dispose of the 4 AA batteries. I have heard for ages that you shouldn't store batteries together in, say, a plastic bag. It might cause a fire...somehow. Don't know if I really believe it, but, what do I know? So, I put one battery in an empty potato chip bag, another one in a plastic cup (yes, it could be recycled...but, it's one little margarita size cup), another one in some other isolated place and the last one I dropped into the remains of half a grapefruit. And right then, a split second after I dropped the battery into that grapefruit, I remembered that science project. And I started to reach into the garbage to move the battery, a bit worried that the energy from the grapefruit might cause a fire. And then I processed the absurdity and started laughing and nearly peed my pants.
Back to the Wii:
I've told you how snarky the Wii welcoming words can be. This time it told me it had been 281 days since it had seen me. 281? Geez, I knew it had been a while, but I didn't realize it had been that long. I have just let myself go to pot! Which was made abundantly clear to me as I completed the weigh in. Not only am I the heaviest I have ever been, my BMI has now moved me from merely "Overweight" to "Obese"!!!
I don't think anyone would really call me obese...at least, not to my face...but, I'm overweight, for sure. And I want to work on that. I really want to get that body mass index number down a few digits. Who would have thunk that I would be working towards being merely overweight?
After the weigh-in, I did a few of the activities on Wii Fit. I did a couple of rounds of hula hoop and a couple of rounds of step aerobics. Then I did a few ski jumps and another balance exercise which escapes my memory now. Lastly, I did a couple of yoga poses. There! A balanced exercise program that took 21 minutes. At least the Wii gave me credit for 21 minutes. I'll start doing my regular exercises in a day or two.
It finally occurred to me that even if my daily calorie intake is only the 1500 or so that Lose It is allowing, I won't lose any weight unless I burn more than those 1500 calories. Evidently, if the recent past is any example, sitting on my heinie playing Free Cell doesn't burn very many. I burn more calories turning over in bed, especially since it's so challenging to not only turn over, but also reposition all my pillows.
I've also resumed (as of this morning) taking the fistful of vitamins and supplements that I deem necessary. If only they made ONE tablet or capsule to take the place of all those things....
I hope my resolve holds firm for at least the 6 weeks. Or maybe I could go into the Wii and edit my height...I'm not obese, I'm just not tall enough!
